Jesus Work

So I just got back from Harding University in Searcy, AR. I had an amazingly uplifting weekend! I would like to share something I heard in the sermon Sunday night. Preacher was talking about an Atheist he met. He asked him why he didn't believe in God. The man explained that he COULDN'T believe in a god who would create such an awful place, wanting people to suffer if they don't do right.

Preacher told him he didn't believe in that God either...that God didn't sit down and have a vote with the Son and the Spirit one day on whether or not there should be a Hell. God wants us to choose Him but because we choose sin above Him, there has to be a place without God (since sin cannot abide with God). Hell exists because we don't want God.

The man also mentioned that if God really loved us he would abolish hell...the earlier answer remains, but there is a more hopeful answer here. God has provided a way out through Jesus. (Acts 2:38) This is how God abolishes hell for us.

SO...Jesus has done the hard part for us. What we have to go through on earth as Christians is NOTHING compared to his trials he faced for us. Sometimes we make Christianity too hard on ourselves. We have clear instructions in the Bible, we have a PERFECT example of how to live through Jesus, and we have a free gift of the Spirit and the promise of heaven. HELLO!? Lets face persecution, lets try to reach others with the chance of rejection, lets sacrifice our lives in a much less painless way than He did.

I will lose everything for the sake of gaining eternity. Who's with me?
