These Nights are Sleepless: We Used to Be...

So, I'm super nostalgic tonight, and wide awake.

Andrew and I are writing a song. I'm digging it.

It reminds me of this old poem I wrote back in July 2008...on my anniversary (irrelevant)

Anyway..

this music in my mind reminds me of a time

when things were so much easier.

when rain fell then i ran outside.

no worries

just love and loving life.

and all of those i held so dear are now so distant.

now so dissonant

is the song begging to be replayed the same way

in the same tune as before.

lonely drives home pondering what just went on.

hyper nights, wide eyed

with so many by my side.

i miss those faces, those voices

those nights in my driveway with whoever, whenever.

that house was so full.

so full of people, so full of love

and now so empty.

we've all grown, and moved and believe

that this is how life goes.

moving on we wipe our tears

and our regrets are wiped clean.

and as we crawl into our beds

we sing that song to fall asleep

and we repeat the chorus until dawn.

a new day arises with each yawn

and rolling over we catch a glimpse before our eyes open

of each others faces and what used to be.
