Wake UP, Christians!

So the whole breast cancer awareness thing is really big right now. Everything is pink. Companies are making huge profits by putting a pink ribbon on their products, and all the women on FB are degrading themselves by making sexual sounding references to their purses. My brother made an interesting response that made me think, and really encouraged me:

"Breast cancer awareness has been the big topic as of late as we have seen people talk about the 'tatas' and the color of their bra and 'where they like it'. Now I know the bra color of all the old ladies from my church...and I really wanted to be as unaware of that as possible...and it does no good. But it got me to thinking...everyone is burning the candle on both ends about breast cancer awareness...which is an important cause...but there are still so many out there who arent fully aware of what the gospel can do for their lives. We are quick to reveal our bra colors...but slow to spread the gospel. What is wrong with this picture?"

We Christians talk a lot about reaching out to people. We say that Jesus' love extends to everyone. We say that everyone deserves a chance.

Truth is:

We look down on others all the time. We write people off as lost causes...even fellow Christians.

NONE of us deserve eternity with God! "ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

The gospel is for everyone. God's grace through the blood of Jesus is extended to all people. Let's stop giving up on people. Instead of gossiping or washing our hands of people, let's pray for them. Let's confront them with love. Let's focus on our own shortcomings before those of other Christians. How can we continue to help others when we're a mess? As for non-Christians, let's show them the love of Jesus instead of griping at them. Let's let them see a difference in us. Let's show them that we are set apart and make them want a part of it. They will desire our joy. They will desire God.

Christians, let's WAKE UP! Let's know our God. Let's know His word. Let's always be ready to give a defense for the hope that is in us, with gentleness and reverence. (1 Peter 3:15)

We need to be spreading the gospel instead of gossip or pointless things. We need to notify others of the truth about Jesus. I'll be the first to admit that I have friends that have probably never opened a bible, who don't know who Noah or Moses or Paul or John the Baptist are, who don't know the story of Jesus, and who don't know His love. Why? Because I have written them off as prospects, because I am too afraid to lose their friendship by standing up for what I believe in. Why? Because I'm their only Christian friend and I don't want them to lose my influence on their lives. WHAT have I done for these people by just being in their lives, if i haven't told them about Jesus? I have failed, and I too often tell myself that its too late now....but...

Truth is:

Its not too late until I'm gone...or their gone.

Why do we wait to share our Lord with others? Are we scared of persecution? Are we scared of being set apart? Are we scared of being alienated? Are we scared of being HATED?

Jesus said, "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world. That is why the world hates you." John 15:18-19

We will be hated here and there for our beliefs, but the Love we get from God surpasses it. Always. Let's wake up. Let's fight the good fight. Let's finish the race. Let's keep the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)

    I rike.
I don't get why people suddenly started caring a LOT about breast cancer. Nobody cared last year, at least not like all this. Turning your picture pink on FB doesn't do anything.
My teacher in my contemp American lit class is teaching a book called Jesus Saves and he didn't even know that Jesus was a Jew. Like, complete fail. He's old and has no excuse, plus Biblical allusions are all over lit, so obviously there are people left who haven't heard about Jesus.
